Condition A-: minor repaired tears, minor replaced losses and creases in margins; repaired pin holes in corners; India State Railways Bureau sticker affixed in lower right image. In many of his finest posters, Gawthorn employed his signature, stylized graphic ability to depict the privileged classes engaging in their exclusive and elegant pastimes. His Art Deco-inspired illustrations were largely executed using flat colors and no outlining, in a manner reminiscent of Ludwig Hohlwein and Fred Taylor. This evocative evening street scene is one of two posters he designed promoting travel to India. Voyage p. 129, Commercial Art, July 1, 1928, p. 107.
