Additional Details

Soulen (1888 - 1965) was 36 at the time he illustrated the two primary pieces for "The Dragonfly." By this period, he was establishing a style of his own, though it is not a stretch to attribute some of his influences in this particular painting -- and other works of the same period -- to N.C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish, Harvey Dunn, Frank Schoonover and other masterly illustrators in the Brandywine circle of artists.
