HENRY, PATRICK. Autograph Document Signed, "P. Henry," four times, retained copy of a land deed in 19 holograph lines, granting 3,000 acres in Jefferson County [VA] to Patrick Henry & John May by Beverly Randolph on June 3, 1789, signed at the lower edge of the page, "Truly copy'd by P. Henry." On the verso is a brief note written in holograph and signed both within the text and after: "Note the patent was delayed several years on account of a caveat which was tryed in Kentucky; & after being long kept at Law, the Land was adjudged to P. Henry & Jno May. Taxes have been duly paid for it by me--the Title never questioned since the Patent. P. Henry." Also on the verso is a holograph statement empowering George Woodson Payne to sell the land described in the deed on Henry's behalf, dated and signed: "P. Henry / Nov'r 10th 1796." 1 1/2 pages, 4to, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet; folds; suspended between sheets of glass and framed. Np, vd
