Additional Details

substantial fragment of the first edition of the first illustrated english herbal. This was only the second such book in English following the considerably shorter unillustrated herbal printed by Richard Banckes in 1525. The text is derived from the Grant Herbier, a French version of the Latin work Circa instans; the illustrations are copied from early 16th-century Dutch-language editions of the Herbarius.
