This was only the second such book in English following the considerably shorter unillustrated herbal printed by Richard Banckes in 1525. The text is derived from the Grant Herbier, a French version of the Latin work Circa instans; the illustrations are copied from early 16th-century Dutch-language editions of the Herbarius.
