The Boeing 707 was the first mass-produced civilian jet aircraft in the United States. The plane took its maiden voyage on December 20, 1957, and was put into transatlantic service by Pan American in 1958. American Airlines began using the aircraft for transcontinental flights in 1959. The 707 ushered in the Jet Age, and brought about many fundamental changes in the airline industry.
