Condition B+: skinning in top corners; loss in bottom right corner; minor tears and wrinkles at edges. Paper. The Boeing 707 was the first mass-produced civilian jet aircraft in the United States. The plane took its maiden voyage on December 20, 1957, and was put into transatlantic service by Pan American in 1958. American Airlines began using the aircraft for transcontinental flights in 1959. The 707 ushered in the Jet-Age, and with it brought about a lot of fundamental changes in the airline industry. Time Magazine, November 17, 1958, in an article entitled "Jets Across the U.S.," cited the increased number of people flying, as well as the size and power of the aircraft, as leading to changes in terminals, air traffic controls, ticketing and reservation systems, baggage handling, food and many other aspects of air travel.
