British South American Airways was conceived in the mid 1940s as British Latin American Airline, but the name changed before it began service in 1946. They operated between the United Kingdom and Mexico, South America, Bermuda and the West Indies, flying aircraft manufactured by the British company Avro, and included Lancasters, Yorks and Tudors. By 1949, after several prominent crashes and safety issues, the company merged with BOAC. Airways p. 87.
