One of the early proponents of photo-montage, Matter employed this avant-garde technique to create a series of travel posters for his native country. "Matter evokes the clear sky and white snow of Switzerland in a manner that emphatically asserts the modernity and sophistication of the country. Matter was able to reduce forceful and complex subject to elemental visual terms." (Word & Image p. 59). One of two designs he created for Pontressina, both, curiously, prominently featuring goggles.
