Bennett was an English film director, writer and producer, whose early career was as a commercial artist. In the 1930s, he started out with film editing and worked on instructional and propaganda films for the British armed forces during World War II, before directing about two dozen films over the next few decades. Bennett wrote guidebooks on how to design posters and showcards. Presaging his cinematic work, this view has tube station names, sale offerings and price label stickers swirling around what appears to be one of the Underground's train tubes. This is one of several London Transport and Underground posters that Bennett designed in the 1920s, reminiscent of Kauffer's designs for the company.
