Herman "Kofi" Bailey made this striking double portait of Civil Rights leader and politician Julian Bond when both were living in Atlanta. Beginning in the 1960s, Bailey was often commissioned by Bond and John Lewis to produce artwork to promote the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee on posters, pamphlets and book covers. In the late 1960s to mid- 1970s, Bond served six consecutive terms as a state senator in Georgia.
