HERMANN EIDENBENZ (1902- ) GRAFA INTERNATIONAL. 1936.
49 1/2x35 1/2 inches. Wassermann, Basel.
Condition B: repaired tears in image and at edges; vertical fold.
A student of Keller in Zurich, Eidenbenz worked both in Germany and Switzerland, opening a studio with his brother in Basel in 1932. One of key artists who established the foundations of contemporary Swiss graphic design Eidenbenz was extremely influential as a pioneer in the field of photography applied to advertising. This is an icon of modern Swiss graphic design advertising a graphic arts expo in Basel, with graphics, typography and photography all combined in an expertly daring mise en page<>. It is a perfect poster in which printing presses and newsboys, immediately recognizable elements from the graphic arts industry, are gracefully presented.
