HERMANN KEIMEL (1889 - 1948) MUENCHENER PLAKAT KUNST. 1931.
47 1/4x33 1/8 inches. Chromolitho Kunstanstalt, Munich.
Condition B+: restored losses in margins; repaired tears and creases in margins and image.
Keimel studied art at the Munich Academy under Julius Diez and Angelo Jank, and went on to become a teacher at the same institution. He was a member of the artistic group "The Twelve," and also of the new Munich Association of Poster Artists. He designed numerous commercial posters, generally employing a crisp Art Deco style. This poster is his masterpiece, and remains an icon of poster self-promotion. Advertising an exhibition of Munich poster art, he plays a geometrical game with colored sheets of printing paper, organized to construct a cubist, human face. Weill p. 173, Rademacher cover and p. 117.
