HERMANN KOSEL (1896-1983) INTERNATIONALE AUTOMOBIL - UND MOTORRAD AUSSTELLUNG. 1931.
48x36 inches, 122x91 1/2 cm. Paul Gerin, [Vienna.]
Condition B+ / B: repaired tears at edges and along sharp vertical and horizontal folds; tape on verso; creases and abrasions in margins and image. Paper.
Kosel studied graphic design with Julius Klinger at the master artist's private advertising school. He went on to work in conjunction with several other prominent designers including Max Frey and Erwin Gibson, and in 1929, he began his solo career. Each year from 1929 to 1932, Kosel designed the poster for the International Car and Motorcycle Exhibition. These posters display the "wide breadth of his artistic capabilities. The styles changed playfully between Art Deco, New Objectivity and Constructvisim, perfectly corresponding to and capturing prevailing artistic themes" (Denscher p. 158). Wiener Plakat 164.
