HERNANDO G. VILLA (1881-1952) CHICAGO WORLD'S FAIR / CENTURY OF PROGRESS. 1933.
41 1/4x27 3/4 inches, 104 3/4x70 1/2 cm. Newman-Monroe Co., Chicago.
Condition B+: repaired tears and restoration in margins; horizontal printer's creases in image; repaired pin holes in corners. Linen, backed to foamcore. Framed.
For the World's Fair in Chicago, Villa presents an unusual allegorical image of the Santa Fe Railroad "serving up Chicago on a silver tray," with recognizable buildings from the city's skyline and the lions from outside the Art Institute all on display. The "windy city" is highlighted on the globe behind the central figure. This poster was re-issued for the World's Fair again in 1934 bearing that year's date and slightly more text.
