Rebay (1890-1967) was the founding director of the Museum of Non-Objective Painting (later known as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum), New York. She was instrumental in collecting abstract art for the museum, securing highlights for its core collection as we know it today. A working artist herself, Rebay integrated progressive aesthetic ideas from her contemporaries, including Wassily Kandinsky and Jean Arp, into her practice.
