A rare print in which a ubiquitous and antagonistic on-site foreman may be partially seen at the far right. This poignant image sets into relief the child's diminutive stature against the oversized, enveloping heavy machinery (which she laboriously operated). Hine's humanistic approach alludes to the scrutiny under which this child toiled, as well as the physically demanding nature of her job.
