H.M. ROSENBERG (1858-1947) THE CENTURY / FOR SEPTEMBER. 1896.
21x14 1/2 inches, 53 1/4x36 3/4 cm. G.H. Buek & Co., N.Y.
Condition A- / B+: minor tears at edges, some into image; minor creases and abrasions in margins. Paper.
This "altogether charming little poster . . . is in delightful style, and suggests the regret that this artist has not been called upon to do more for his enterprising patrons [the Century Magazine] . . . the whites being made to tell with great force by means of a grey tone which covers the principal surface. As a sample of lithography, also, this poster is admirable, by reason of its accurate register, the purity of the colours, and the care with which the artist's every touch has been retained" (A Book of the Poster, by W.S. Rogers, p. 92). DFP-I 477, Kiehl 272, American Posters no. 97, Margolin p. 75, Virginia p. 93.
