HOCQUARD, CHARLES EDOUARD (1855-1911) Group of 17 mounted photographs entitled "Le Tonkin" [Vietnam], with 9 prints mounted singly and 8 mounted doubly. With portraits of sharpshooters, lepers, merchants, fortifications and citadels, bankers, native men forging iron, and topographic and picturesque scenes. Albumen prints, sizes ranging from 4x6 to 7 1/2x9 inches (10.2x15.2 to 19.1x22.9 cm.), and the reverse, each with an inventory number and title, in English, in the negative and the publisher's credit, Henry Cremnitz, printed in red. Circa 1885
Hocquard was a military doctor in the Franco-Chinese War (1884-1885). His field report was illustrated with pictures of the French conquest of Indochina and the last remaining citadels in Vietnam.
