HOUDINI Harry (Ehrich WEISS 1874-1926). Houdini in the Amsterdam (Holland) Prison Jan. 1902. Broke Out of the Irons & Cell in 15 Minutes. Color lithograph; linen-backed. 30 1/4x20 inches (76x51 cm). Some expert restoration and over-coloring along folds, but still quite an exceptional copy. Famous image of a full-figure manacled Houdini on the left and with two small vignettes on the right. Houdini's feat was accomplished while in Amsterdam for a regular theatre performance. He convinced local authorities to put him in jail as a test of his ability to escape. Houdini used his successful escape for publicity purposes on this poster.
