"The friends of Mr. Ira Munson are desirous that he should be appointed Special Mail Agent from New York to San Francisco, California.
"I have known Mr. Munson long, and intimately, & I am happy to assure Your Excellency that I know no gentleman more worthy, or more capable, than he is, for the situation which is solicited for him by his friends.
"Mr. M. is amiable, mild, & obliging in his demeanor, which he is unremitting in industry. All who know him are his friends, and no one is more deeply imbued with the principles of pure Democracy than he is, and has ever been."
Ira Munson (1809-1865) served as commissary under General Winfield Scott during the Mexican-American War.
