HOWARD CHANDLER CHRISTY (1873-1952) WE THE PEOPLE. 1937. 29 1/4x19 inches, 74 1/2x48 cm. Condition A-: minor abrasions at edges; minor creases in margins and image. Signed twice in ink on right center border by Robert C. Byrd, US Senator. Framed. Christy was commissioned to design this poster by the director of the Constitution's Sesquicentennial Commission. The project eventually resulted in a 20 by 30 foot painting on the same theme which currently hangs in the U.S. Capitol. This patriotic allegory features a typical Christy girl hovering over a scene of America's founding fathers signing the Constitution.
