HOWARD CHANDLER CHRISTY SCRIBNER'S FOR APRIL. 1900.
22 1/8x14 1/2 inches. The Grignard Litho., Co. New York.
Condition A-: minor tears in margins; repaired pinholes in top corners; restored minor losses along horizontal fold.
Before his meteoric rise to fame as father of the "Christy Girls," the artist was known as a "war illustrator." Christy actually spent time in Cuba during the Spanish American War where he met Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders, and did a series of drawings on the American Revolution for Scribner's. For this cover story on the Boer War Christy most likely worked from a photograph.
