The Committee on Safer Sex was an offshoot of the Gay Men's Health Crisis. They produced educational materials aimed at changing the behavior of men in bathhouses, rather than shutting down the bathhouses themselves. Cruse is a cartoonist best known for Wendel and Stuck Rubber Baby. In 1980 he founded Gay Comix.
