Steers was influenced by artists such as Edward Hopper and Paul Cadmus, and captured the gay community in the late 1980s and early 1990s in New York. He died of complications from AIDS at the age of 32. His
paintings are in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Walker Art Center and the Denver Art Museum.
