Eric Simon (1907-94) was a conductor, instrumentalist, and instructor who, in 1944, performed in the orchestra for Porgy and Bess, and who taught in New York at the Mannes College of Music and the New School. Hughes wrote the lyrics for Simon's work for piano and voice, Disillusion.
