Encore is an excellent example of the artist's late series of paintings depicting musicians and actors in a staged environment. There is a more colorful tone to his 1990s series of paintings which explore the mood and space around or between young African-American performers. They appear in a bright or even sun-lit settings that are still very much a part of Lee-Smith world.
