HUGO LUDWIG BRAUNE (1872-?) HARMONIUMS AND PIANOS. Circa 1900.
33 1/4x35 3/4 inches. Schön & Maison, Munich.
Condition B+: restoration and restored losses in corners; repaired tears in margins, affecting image; vertical and horizontal folds.
Born in Leipzig, Braune studied in Munich, where he was active as a painter and illustrator, and moved to Berlin after the War. This poster, apparently the only one he designed, is very much in the Munich Secession style, with pronounced decorative elements and a feeling of soft eroticism. That being said, it is clearly an attempt by a classic painter to enter the world of advertising. DFP III, 397, München 70.
