Additional Details

An extremely unusual and scarce directory for 18 towns in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Iowa and Kentucky, each with a separate title and a profusion of ads from those towns. The towns include St. Louis, Alton, Hannibal, Quincy, Keokuk, Burlington, Davenport, Moline, Galena, Dubuque, Peoria, Louisville and Cincinnati. According to the title, only 2000 were printed. Not listed in any of the usual bibliographies or OCLC. A pencil note on the front free endpaper indicates that the only copy known at the New York Public Library is missing. We could find no record of this directory ever appearing at auction. The lot includes correspondence from various librarians attesting to its rarity.
