The complete works of the orientalist and librarian Thomas Hyde (1636-1703) apart from his catalogue of the Bodleian Library. The set comprises the second edition of his 1700 account of pre-Islamic religion in Persia, "an attempt to present for the first time in Europe the beliefs of the ancient Zoroastrians (ODNB)," and the first collected edition of his remaining publications. These include translations, with the original texts, of the Zij of Ulugh Beg, consisting of astronomical tables and a star catalogue, and the Iggeret Orhot Olam of Abraham Farissol, the first modern Hebrew work on geography; and Hyde's studies of chess and other games in the Middle East and Asia.
