First edition of Hemingway's first book published in the United States, octavo; inscribed by the author, "First book published in U.S. Name misspelled as added attraction," in black ink above the heading for his story, "My Old Man", the author's name spelled "Hemenway" as advertised; bound in blue publisher's cloth lettered in gilt; scattered small spots and stains, three inch closed tear affecting text of page 315; lower hinge cracked, spine lightly sunned, head and tail cap just pushed; original publisher's printed dust jacket; corners clipped not affecting price, multiple closed tears repaired on verso with tape, one hole to front panel sloppily repaired with tape, stained on verso; housed in a custom green morocco-backed clamshell box; ex libris Dr. Don Carlos Guffey (1878-1966), sold at Sotheby's Parke-Bernet 14 October 1958, Lot 178; 7 3/8 x 5 1/4 in.
