First edition, first issue, folio, with the woodcut ornament incorporating a head printed on the typographical title page, earlier state of the emblematic engraved frontispiece facing the title; folding table present between page 40 and 41 with one tear repaired on verso; bound in full contemporary English speckled calf, ruled in blind, very neatly rebacked in period style, corners repaired; slight fraying to fore-edge of typographical title; some neat early underlining in brown ink with occasional annotations and page numbers referring to an unidentified (likely theological) text; slight discoloration to verso of final leaf, otherwise crisp and nicely preserved; endleaves are replacements from the time of the recent rebacking but sourced from a stock of period-appropriate paper; repaired tear to bottom blank margin of I1; 11 x 7 in.
