"As this book [Comrade Sisters] demonstrates, the style of leadership offered by women of the Black Panther Party was down-to-earth and profoundly collective. This was leadership designed to serve the people, to ensure their survival, and, ultimately, to radically transform social institutions by prefiguring what life might be like if people of all racial, religious, and class backgrounds could claim substantive access to education, healthcare, and nutrition. For 55 years, these phenomenal programs and this radical vision have comprised the legacy of the Black Panther Party." (Quoted from Angela Davis's Foreword of the present work.)
