First edition, signed by Huggins and Shames on a specially printed sticker on front endleaf; [together with] 115 original 11 x 14 inch photographic images used as illustrations in the book, (all but one in black-and-white), each print made by Shames and signed and numbered on the verso; this is one set of three produced by the artist; all photos housed in boxes, essentially not handled, as new.
"As this book [Comrade Sisters] demonstrates, the style of leadership offered by women of the Black Panther Party was down-to-earth and profoundly collective. This was leadership designed to serve the people, to ensure their survival, and, ultimately, to radically transform social institutions by prefiguring what life might be like if people of all racial, religious, and class backgrounds could claim substantive access to education, healthcare, and nutrition.
