IHAP HULUSI GÖREY (1898-1986)

EGYPT WELCOMES YOU / EGYPTIAN STATE RAILWAYS. Circa 1937.

39 1/4x27 1/2 inches, 99 1/2x69 3/4 cm. L'Art Graphique, Cairo.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears in margins; minor creases and abrasions at edges and in image.

Pictured in the background here is one of the two monumental Colossi of Memnon that stand at the front of the ruined Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III. The statues contain over one hundred Roman-era inscriptions in Greek and Latin, some of which make reference to the Greek mythological king Memnon, hence the misnaming of the figure (actually depictions of Amenhotep III). Smaller figures carved into the front throne alongside his legs are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya.
