ILMARI SYSIMETSA XVth OLYMPIC GAMES. 1952.
39 1/2x24 1/2 inches. Oy. Tilgmann, Finalnd.
Condition A: minor restoration in top corners.
Originally designed for the 1940 Helsinki Olympics, both the poster and the games were shelved due to the outbreak of the Second World War. When the games were brought back to Finland in 1952, the organizers chose to retain their original poster design and merely change the dates. The image features a green statue of the four time Finnish gold medalist in long-distance running, Paavo Nurmi, over a blue and gray globe with Finland highlighted in orange. As the size of Finland shrank as a result of the Second World War, this poster also feautres a smaller outline of the country than the original, unused, 1940 version. Printed in 9 different languages, this is the English version. Olympic p. 59.
