Additional Details

first edition in catalan of De regimine principum, a guide to conduct for rulers by a 13th-century Augustinian philosopher and theologian. "Its three books deal respectively with the government of self, the government of the family, and civil government, or, with personal ethics, economics, and politics" (Sarton). The original text in Latin was first published in 1473. This translation is the first vernacular edition and one of the earliest books printed in Catalan. The only prior works in that language recorded by ISTC are the Obres o Trobes en Laors de la Verge Maria circa 1474 (of which only the University of Valencia copy is known); a 1478 Bible (HSA copy of the colophon leaf only); and a Psalter circa 1480 (Bibliothèque Mazarine copy only). Hain 110; GW 7220; Haebler, Bibliografía Ibérica 154; Palau 276511; Sarton II, 924; ISTC ia00090000 (11 copies in Europe, only the Huntington and HSA copies in North America). RBH records one copy (auctioned twice); none in ABPC.
