Additional Details

The first two titles offered here constitute two-thirds of a loose trilogy for which Ishiuchi is best known. Both of these books address the character of place, and are photographed with the Provoke movement as a clear influence. The images are forceful and bleak--both a deeply personal narrative and one that can be read as indicative of Japan's national crisis after WWII. Ishiuchi is widely regarded as one of the most important female photographers since the 1970s. She is also known for her series titled "Mother's," which memorialized her mother with images of her possessions.
