In 1970, Chermayeff & Geismar were hired to redesign Pan American's logo and corporate identity. First and foremost, the designers changed the airline's logo, initiating a more modern and streamlined look using a minimalist, Helvetica typeface. They also designed a new advertising campaign for the company featuring twelve posters. The resulting "Swiss-style, late-Modernist identity program and posters [were] captivating pieces of graphic design and art direction" (Frederico Duarte, Eye #73, December 2009). Modern American Poster p. 132 (var).
