Born in New York, Greene (1895-1966) was an artistic success from an early age. He received an art scholarship to the Ethical Culture Society while still a youngster. He also received scholarships to The National Academy, Student Art League, and the New York School of Fine and Applied Design. During WWI he served in the Intellignce division of the US Armed Forces, after which he was given his first one-man show in New York. He died in Sherman Oaks, California, leaving behind a distinguished career.
