J. PRZYBYLSKA (DATES UNKNOWN) IX INTERNATIONALE OSTMESSE. 1929.
39 1/4x27 1/2 inches, 99 1/2x70 cm. Piller-Neumann Lwow, Poland.
Condition B+: creases and abrasions in margins and image; horizontal fold. Paper.
From 1921 to 1938 Lwow was home to the Ostmesse, a fair "that mainly served the promotion of trade with Asian markets. The 'East Fair' was visited mainly by German, Austrian and Czech merchants and handlers of the Balkan countries. It was dominated by machinery and transport equipment, metal products, the clothing industry but also food and chemical products" (Lemberg: das kulturelle Zentrum der Westukraine, by Ania Klijanienko. Trescher Verlag GmbH, 2008, p. 137). This image of a Marco Polo-type explorer, with one foot on land and the other on sea, captures the international feeling of trade with the East. This is the German version. rare.
