Jackson operated a photography studio in Denver, Colorado from 1879 until 1898, during which time in which he perfected his mammoth-plate albumen prints. He was hired by the founder of the Denver & Rio Grande Railway, William Jackson Palmer, to promote this new transportation hub. The image depicts a group of dignataries in front of Palmer's excursion train at Royal Gorge.
