JACOB LAWRENCE (1917 - 2000)
General Toussaint L'Ouverture.

Color screenprint on Bainbridge Two Ply Rag paper, 1986. 721x470 mm; 28 3/8x18 1/2 inches, full margins. Artist's proof, one of 25, aside from the numbered edition of 100. Signed, titled, dated, inscribed "AP" and numbered 17/25 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Lou Stovall, Workshop, Inc., Washington, DC, with the blind stamp lower left. Published by the Amistad Research Center, New Orleans. A very good impression with strong colors.

This image is based on the 20th image from the original series of 41 paintings from 1938. It is also the most sought-after screenprint from the series of 15 made between 1986-97 - we have found no record of another impression at auction. Nesbett L86-2.
