JACQUES LIPCHITZ
Study for "Tree of Life."

Felt-tip pen and ink with pencil on tan wove paper, crica 1960. 320x243 mm; 12 1/2x9 5/8 inches. Signed in ink, lower recto.

Lipchitz's (1891-1973) Tree of Life, an almost 20 foot bronze sculpture symbolizing the development of Judaism, was unveiled in 1978 after the artist's death on the grounds of the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. One of his last creations, Lipchitz described the sculpture as the "crown of my work."
