JACQUES VILLON
Manège rue Caulaincourt, ou Le Petit Manège aux Chevaux de Bois.

Color aquatint and etching, 1904. 390x495 mm; 15 1/4x19 1/2 inches, full margins. Edition of 50. Signed and inscribed "No. 40" in pencil, lower margin. A superb impression of this very scarce print, with strong colors.

According to Ginestet/Pouillon, Villon etched this subject directly on a copper plate while sitting at a cafe on the rue Caulaincourt, in the Montmartre district of Paris. Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Théophile Steinlen all had studios in the vicinity of this location in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Ginestet/Pouillon 111.
