Jaime Vasquez was born in Chimbote-Ancash, Peru in 1955. He left home for Lima to study art at the Academy of Fine Arts. Before his studies were completed, he was awarded the prestigious Ejercito Peruano national prize. After graduation Vasquez taught at the national School of Fine arts and Toulouse Lautrec Institute in Lima. In 2002 Jaime Vasquez moved to New York City. He is now a citizen of the United States and works out of his studio in The Bronx.
