JAMES A. M. WHISTLER
Bibi Lalouette.

Etching and drypoint on antique cream laid paper, 1859. 230x153 mm; 9x6 inches, wide margins. MacDonald's second state (of 3), before cancellation and with the hooked drypoint scratch across the blouse burnished. A brilliant, richly-inked impression with all the fine lines printing clearly, with strong contrast between the child's head and background, with warm plate tone and crisp, partially inky plate edges; the burnishing on the 2 heads formerly in the lower left and lower right showing clearly. Kennedy 51; MacDonald 33.
