JAMES A. M. WHISTLER
Eagle Wharf.

Etching on antique cream laid paper, 1859. 138x213 mm; 5 1/2x8 3/8 inches, 1/2-inch (full ?) margins. Blauw watermark. A brilliant, early impression with strong contrasts and crisp, inky plate edges.

Whistler often referred to this plate as "Tyzack Witeley," which is the name on the building at the left which was then occupied by a chain cable and anchor making firm. It is one of several etchings from the "Thames Set" with a figure set prominently in the foreground and the wharves visible in the background. Kennedy 41.
