The artist's wife, Beatrix, in the Whistlers' garden at their home on the Rue de Bac, Paris, drawn during the summer of 1894. Way transferred and proofed the lithograph on August 28th.
Intimate portraits like this of Whistler's wife are particularly bittersweet in retrospect. Beatrix died of cancer in London only 2 years later. Way 63; Levy 94; Spink 101.
