JAMES A. M. WHISTLER
Little Café au Bois.

Lithograph, 1894. 210x156 mm; 8 1/4x6 1/8 inches, full margins. Edition of 28. Signed with the butterfly in pencil, lower left. Partial Van der Ley watermark (Spink 129). Printed by Way, London. A superb impression of this extremely scarce lithograph.

Provenance: Rosalind Birnie Philip, the artist's sister-in-law, London, with her stamp (Lugt 406, verso).

According to the printer Way, Whistler (1834-1903) drew this nocturnal scene of men and women gathered at an outdoor café-chantant in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. Way 56; Levy 87; Spink 91.
