Provenance: Rosalind Birnie Philip, the artist's sister-in-law (Lugt 405, verso).
According to Spink, "The model for this lithograph was probably Carmen Rossi, one of Whistler's favorite models in Paris. She posed for several other, similar lithographs in late 1893." Way 51; Levy 82; Spink 76.
