Etching printed in dark brown on cream laid paper, on the artist's original tan card stock mount, 1887. 220x140 mm; 8 3/4x5 1/2 inches. First state (of 2), before the additional work under the balcony at left. Signed with the butterfly and inscribed "imp" in pencil on the tab, lower left. Signed again with the butterfly and dedicated "To Alfred Watson" in pencil on the mount, lower right. A superb, richly-inked impression of this extremely scarce etching.

We have found only 2 other impressions at auction in the past 25 years. The last impression sold at Sotheby's, New York, May 3, 2007, auction 8312, lot 68. Kennedy 361.
